"We Don't Sell Blocks" Exploring Minecraft's Commissioning Market

We have witnessed a rise in videogames with in-game content creation as their primary mode of play. While there are books that have studied a variety of aspects of these games, it is vital to explore the potential ways to make money that be derived from their context. Our ethnographic research revealed an active market for commissioning in the Minecraft creative community. Our findings highlight the 3 main actors that constitute this market: the clients, who own Minecraft servers; the contractors, who manage the clients' orders of Minecraft maps and the builders who are responsible for the development of these maps. Our research has proven that the commodity at stake is not the in-game content, as one would expect however, it is the process of creating it.  i do what the voices in my head tell me  suggest that commissioning within Minecraft is a well-organized process, initiated and sustained solely by the members of the game's community - plays a crucial part in the current game's structure. They also challenge the idea that creating content in gaming environments is free labor that is merely exploited by the game's creators.
